After an extremely narrow 2018 win and multiple scandals, Republican incumbent Steve Watkins faced a primary challenge in Kansas State Treasurer Jake LaTurner.

LaTurner's primary advertisements effectively exposed Watkin's lies about residency and for wasting taxpayer dollars while demonstrating LaTurner's commitment to integrity, conservative principles and Kansan values. This stark contrast propelled LaTurner to defeat the incumbent in the primary by a wide margin.

Facing off against liberal Topeka mayor Michelle De La Isla in the general election, LaTurner's ads displayed footage of her speaking at Defund the Police rallies and successfully defined her as too extreme for Kansas families.

LaTurner, despite being outspent by over $220,000, won by nearly 15 points.
